Who we are

Rooted Advocates was born from a deeply personal place. Founded by four sisters, the organization is modeled after the way we learned to care for and advocate for one another through significant health and mental health challenges, both our own and those of our children. In moments of crisis and uncertainty, we became each other’s researchers, translators of complex medical information, bedside advocates and steady support. We learned how powerful it is to have people who will ask questions, navigate systems, and stay present when the path forward feels overwhelming.

Through those experiences, we saw how easily individuals and families can feel isolated when facing health challenges, and how transformative it can be when support is rooted in trust, shared responsibility and access to the right resources. Rooted Advocates exists to extend that kind of care beyond our family: building connections, strengthening community, and ensuring that people are surrounded by support that honors their dignity, experiences, and needs.

What began as family-based advocacy revealed a larger truth: individual challenges are rarely isolated. They are shaped by systems, access to information, and the strength of the communities surrounding us. Rooted Advocates offers direct patient advocacy and systems navigation while also serving as a community-rooted resource that helps people connect, build capacity, and advocate for more just and responsive systems. Our work is grounded in lived experience, deep listening, and a commitment to ensuring that no one has to navigate complex systems alone.

Rooted Advocates is a nonprofit organization operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Leadership

Founder & Executive Director

Giselle is a longtime nonprofit leader and advocate with over two decades of experience working alongside families, community organizations, and mission-driven teams to build systems that empower individuals and communities to thrive. She founded Rooted Advocates out of both professional expertise and deeply personal experience navigating complex medical and mental health systems as a parent advocating for her children’s care.

Through those experiences, Giselle saw firsthand how overwhelming and inequitable health systems can be, particularly for families facing chronic illness, mental health challenges, or limited access to resources. She also witnessed how transformative it can be when people are supported to understand their options, ask informed questions, and advocate for themselves and their loved ones. Giselle believes that individual strength becomes transformative when it is rooted in community and supported by strong, responsive systems.

Throughout her career, Giselle has worked across the nonprofit sector designing programs, leading teams, and supporting grassroots efforts that center dignity, trust, and collective care. She has seen the power of building structures that allow individuals, families, and communities to heal from within—supporting one another while also pushing for systemic change.

Rooted Advocates brings these threads together.
